Tuffa steel handover

Two months ago we invited two Course Leaders from Burton & South Derbyshire College to visit our factory to discuss a steel donation to help welding students with their practical skills.

As a result of that, last week Tuffa’s Steel Workshop Manager, Martin Maras and Mike Salmon from our marketing team loaded up the Tuffa flat-bed truck and made the short journey to Burton to make the off-cut steel donation.

We manufacture a range of bespoke and standard steel tanks in 6mm mild steel in capacities from 900 up to 180,000 litres, and have various sizes of off-cuts in our steel workshop.

Welding a partnership

Welding Course Leader, Tom Syson commented: “It’s vitally important for our students and apprentices to get practical welding experience as part of their course. We are extremely grateful for Tuffa UK’s kind donation of steel off-cuts which will be invaluable for our students practising their welding skills in the workshop.”

Peter Brochocki, Deputy Director of Curriculum added: “We are delighted to be receiving the steel donation from Tuffa UK. The exciting partnership will enhance the learning experience for our welding students and will give them the opportunity to hone their skills in the College’s workshop for their future careers.”

Tuffa Tanks Steel Workshop Manager, Martin Maras said: “We have benefited from a couple of apprentices in our steel team who have trained and developed their skills through apprenticeship courses at BSDC, so it’s good to build our relationship with our local college. We all have to start somewhere and the best way to learn is by practising. It’s great that we can use our off-cuts to help the next generation of local welders and mechanical engineers to forge their careers.”

Mike Salmon from Tuffa’s marketing department added: “We usually re-use, re-cycle or sell our off-cuts, but we felt that this steel donation was an opportunity to help students in our local community. We are looking forward to developing our community outreach and our relationships with other local businesses and organisations.”
